One of the most common needs for any mosque is a clear, reliable display of daily prayer times. Whether you manage a large mosque hall or a small prayer room, Tawkit gives you a free, beautiful prayer times display that works on almost any screen — no subscription, no installation in most cases, and no technical expertise required.
This guide walks you through every method available, from the simplest (open a browser) to the most complete (dedicated Android TV setup). Choose the method that fits your mosque's available equipment.
Choose Your Display Method
Tawkit works on several types of devices. Choose the one that matches what your mosque already has:
- Any TV with a browser — LG Smart TV, Samsung Smart TV, or any TV connected to a laptop or PC
- Android TV or Android TV Box — the most popular and recommended method
- Raspberry Pi — a small, affordable device that runs 24/7 at very low cost
- Windows or Linux PC / laptop — connect to TV via HDMI
All methods use the same Tawkit application. The difference is only in how you open it.
Method 1 — Online Version (No Install)
The fastest way to get started. No installation needed at all.
- Open any web browser on your device (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or the built-in Smart TV browser)
- Go to: offline.tawkit.net
- The app opens immediately — enter your city name
- Set your prayer calculation method (defaults are correct for most countries)
- Press F11 (or the fullscreen button on your TV remote) for full-screen display
- Leave the browser open — the app refreshes automatically each day
Best for: Laptops, PCs, Smart TVs with a browser. Requires internet connection at all times.
Method 2 — Offline ZIP Version (HTML)
The offline version is identical to the online app but runs completely without internet after setup. This is the recommended method for mosques with unreliable internet.
- Download the ZIP file from the Downloads section
- Extract the ZIP to a folder on your device (e.g.,
C:\tawkit\) - Open the
index.htmlfile inside the folder using Chrome or Firefox - For Android 5–9: follow the guide in
methode1.pdfincluded in the ZIP - For Android 10+: follow
methode2.pdf - Configure your city and settings once — they are saved automatically
- Set the browser to open this file on startup for a permanent display
Best for: Mosques without reliable internet. Works on any device with a modern browser.
Method 3 — Android APK (Recommended for TV)
The Android APK is the most complete and stable option for mosque TV screens. It uses a dedicated browser engine (GeckoView) that ensures the app runs perfectly on all Android devices.
- Download the correct APK for your device from the Downloads section:
- Android 05/14 — for older Android TV boxes
- Android 15/16 ARM64 — for newer Android TV boxes
- Transfer the APK to your Android TV box (via USB stick or download directly)
- On your Android TV: go to Settings → Security → Allow unknown sources
- Install the APK using a file manager app
- Open Tawkit — enter your city and configure settings
- Set Tawkit to launch on boot: go to app settings and enable Start on boot
Best for: Permanent mosque displays. Runs 24/7 without needing a PC.
Method 4 — Raspberry Pi (Advanced, Very Low Cost)
A Raspberry Pi is a small computer the size of a credit card that costs around $35–$50. It can run Tawkit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, using very little electricity. This is an excellent long-term solution for mosques.
- Connect the Raspberry Pi to your mosque TV via HDMI
- Install Raspberry Pi OS (instructions at raspberrypi.org)
- Open Chromium browser (pre-installed)
- Navigate to offline.tawkit.net or use the offline ZIP version
- Set Chromium to open Tawkit in fullscreen on startup
- The Pi runs silently and uses only 3–5 watts of power

Configure Your Prayer Times
Once the app is running, you need to configure it for your mosque. The most important settings are:
- City / Location — type your city name and select from the list
- Calculation method — choose the method used by Islamic authorities in your country (e.g., Egyptian General Authority, MWL, ISNA)
- Iqamah times — set the delay between adhan and iqamah for each prayer
- Mosque name — shown on screen
- Display mode — horizontal (landscape) or vertical (portrait)
- Sound alerts — enable adhan sounds for each prayer
- Language — 48 languages supported
All settings are saved automatically in your browser or device. You can also export your settings as a file and import them on another device — useful for setting up multiple mosque screens identically.
Tips for a Professional Mosque Display
- Use a TV with at least 40 inches for good visibility from prayer rows
- Mount the TV at eye level or slightly above the entrance
- Enable screen dimming during prayer time — Tawkit dims the display automatically so it is not distracting
- Use the vertical display mode if your TV is mounted in portrait orientation
- Enable auto background change to keep the display visually fresh
- Set up adhan sound alerts — the app plays the adhan automatically at prayer time
- Add Qur'an verses in the center panel and hadiths at the bottom for spiritual benefit
- If you need a volunteer to help install in your mosque, check the Volunteers section
Tawkit has been installed in thousands of mosques across more than 50 countries, and it is completely free — it is a waqf dedicated to the Houses of Allah. There are no subscriptions, no ads, and no account required for the basic version.
If you find the app useful, consider volunteering to install it in other mosques in your city. Every mosque that displays accurate prayer times is a sadaqah jariyah — a continuous charity.
